Paula McKinney

For as long as Paula can remember, she wanted to be an artist, and she feels very fortunate to be able to have her passion as her career. Living in the North Coast of Ireland and surrounded by so many beautiful and inspiring places., Paula paints seven days a week to keep the thread of thought going and the momentum of the artwork alive.

Paula studied fine art at the University of Ulster Belfast specialising in painting, and has exhibited in a variety of galleries in the North and South of Ireland. She was awarded first prize in the “New Art of the Irish” competition and has been commissioned to produce works of art for individuals, companies and institutions, such as McCaffery’s Permanent Art Collection and St Mary's Hospital in Dublin.

Paula and Darach.webp

Paula generally works on a few paintings at a time. She builds up the work in layers, sometimes starting with acrylic and then completing the paintings in oils. She tries to create fluidity in her work, expressing the sense of freedom experienced in these environments. She enjoys exploring paints, the different processes and mark-making methods to create a loose, free style with the intention of expressing ideas in an exciting and intuitive manner.
